When the
going gets tough
August 2001
Dave and I attempted the London to Bath and back today.
Unfortunately when we reached Bath, we were 12 minutes down on schedule
with 80 miles remaining. It was worth continuing, but only if the
westerly wind which had been annoying us for the best part of 100 miles
was of some help in eliminating the deficit.
Maybe we were too tired from our efforts of getting to Bath. One
way or the other, though, we didn't pull back any of the deficit in the
first 20 miles of the return leg.
So
we climbed off at Calne, needing to average over 25 mph to the end,
which we just weren't going to do. If you know the road, you'll
understand.
